Pasty Protest March in Falmouth in order to protest the increase in tax on the pasty. Hundreds of people marched through the streets, before arriving in events square and celebrating their Cornish traditions. It poured it down with rain all day, yet the local were full of spirit. Every political party in Cornwall supports to abolishes this new tax.

Latest shoot with Jill and Irene.

Not much has changed since the last month in terms of deterioration of Irene, she is still very much unable to speak full coherent sentences, but Jill after this shoot seemed to perk up a bit.
It was a rather interesting shoot in terms of events. First of all Jill’s granddaughter Paige, Irene’s great granddaughter came on the visit too. They were extremely close and used to talk and do things together all of the time, however due to the dementia, their relationship has suffered and Jill had tried to encourage to keep it going. They played dominos together, to try and keep Irene’s mind active all the time, as Jill is very much involved as much as she can be. To begin with, Irene was sat in her wheelchair in a hallway just left, and was pondering and babbling nervous words and sounds. During dominos Jill told me that she could see her mother trying to remember what to do and succeeding a few times on her own which made her day.
Photography wise, the light was a lot better and the faster film enabled me to capture things in darkness a lot better. Still though I have the same room, but I quite like that now, the room doesn’t change only the people and small activities. The slight repetition of her life now.
Irene was booked in for an eye test for new glasses, and Jill took her down. I could see that Irene was unable to even explain any of the letters even if she could see them, and although only an eye test, Jill was constantly by her side, making sure that everything for her mother was okay and that she didn’t get distressed. Jill is very much at the beginning stage of dementia with her mother and remains to be positive.
Later on that evening, Jill invited me round for a coffee. We ended up talking about her mother and Jill wanted to show me photographs of her mother before dementia and how close the 4 generations of girls were. I took some photographs of this but the light was awful  and they have a big colour cast over them.
I would like to carry on with Jill and Irene’s story as this is a story very much as the beginning of the process, unlike Deb and Murry who were at the end and Kathleen and Albert who are in the middle.
